Huevember 2016: Autumn

I thought of drawing a Huevember entry based on Autumn and orange. Then I realized too late that today’s Huevember entry is mandarin orange, not orange. Anyhow, I drew a sketch of my OC and autumn.

During my secondary school years, I had created character design for the season personification, where Autumn is a woman. Now I thought of drawing the sketch with markers.

Now I had done a colour reference for each markers, so I could tell which colour to use whether I thought of drawing a coloured sketch. I mainly use orange on the frame and the dress. Unlike the previous Huevember entry, I had paid attention to the framing, which in this case, I drew angular branches wrapping around the frame. Afterwards I drew the outlines with 0.1 and 0.5 pen. I did plan to wrap the orange frame with brown outlines. But then I finished the brown branches, and the brown outline would cover the branches, so the outline is canceled.

The leaves’ colour do alternate between red, orange and yellow. I was listening to Fantasia to get my drawing mood going. I had picked orange and brown for the main palettes, with some red and yellow thrown in.

All in all, this is the first time I had properly drew a human character in the sketch. It is fine, except that I don’t have much experience in shading clothing and faces with markers. Maybe more reference would help.
